TRANSLATION OF SOME TEACHINGS OF

MEVLANA AND OTHER SAINTS ABOUT

PITYING and FORGIVING

[Texts written between square brackets and some punctuation are added for the sake of making the meaning clearer.]

PITYING

I am Mevlana
...
Don't say "it is the suffering of the soft one"
Don't pity that [God's] human
What is there to pity in what my Allah gives?
(?)
No! It should not be misunderstood
[Some people think that] Human does not merit suffering
[There is] The opinion that [he/she] does not merit [suffering]
[However] Nothing is given to human that he/she does not merit
Give love to human
The one to be pitied is the one who does not know how to love

I am Mevlana
...
You would not know sweet before eating sour [hot]
You can not look at the sun before seeing the darkness
You can not learn to love before knowing to pity
...
27 February 1972

I am Mevlana
...
No question should be made [asked] about the one who diverted his/her path
One should say, "My Allah wished it like this"
Is he/she your human so that you think [about him/her]?
You [would] keep [yourself] away from pitying if you [can] see Creator in Creator's human

I am Mevlana
...
Pitying is not the duty of human
What I am saying should not be misunderstood
I did not say, "Be pitiless"
Find each event in my Allah's giving [realize that each event is from God]
Are you greater than God that you pity what God gives?
[just] Perform [the] humanhood duty that you have
If you see someone in need
Help him/her as much as you can
This is what [all that] you should do
...

I am Mevlana
...
Don't be [among] the ones who pity what is coming from Him [God]
Don't be [among] the ones who keep away what gives from Him [God]
What comes, goes
What is left [behind], pays you
Do not keep away what [God] gives
[do] Not [give] from pity [do not give because you pity him/her]
To share should be your intention
[For example, the tree [from God] gives the fruits. Do not keep away the tree from other humans. Give [share] the fruits of the tree to [with] others. Even when all fruits are shared [gone], [do not worry] the tree will give you more. You should give, not because you pity, but for the sake of sharing.]

I am Mevlana
...
Mercy should be known [given]
Without saying [discriminating] young [or] old
Without breaking [damaging] the branch of the tree
Without letting the blind [person] fall
By feeding the one who can not find food
Let us leave pitying to my Greatest Rabb [God]
[God is the] One who sees
[God is the] One who knows
[God is the] One who sends the knowing [saint, sends help]

FORGIVING

I am Mevlana
...
Let human ask pardon
Let the one [person] whose heart is broken forgive
...
(?/?)1970

I am Mevlana
...
Human is not without fault [there is no human who does not do any mistake]
If you do not break heart [of other humans]
If you do not divert from [the] right [path]
You will be forgiven
...
13 April 1970

I am Mevlana
...
It should not be said, "My sin will not be forgiven"
Who ever has my Allah's path as direction
Should not suspect [worry about] forgiveness
...
25 September 1970

I am Mevlana
...
Gold does not get rusted, even in mud
You hold [it] under water [you wash it]
You rub [it] with hand
[Gold] Cleans
Gold does not lose from [being] gold [gold does not lose from its value] [gold also means "divine meaning," "divine knowledge"]
Human should not feel sad by saying, "I made [a] mistake"
Of course pardon is ordered [granted] to the one who asks pardon from my Allah
He/she is cleaned with [God's] light
[as long as] The heart of human is nice
[as long as] He/she does not repeat the mistake that he asked pardon for
I said he/she gets light
[otherwise] Shade will cover the light [heart gate will close. For an explanation of "heart gate" please read the Spirit page of Beyond Sufism site.]
...
12 February 1971

I am Mevlana
...
You wish a sieve from my Allah
You sieve your sand
Then, if you mix them [the coarse and the fine sand] together
What good does sieving have? [what is sieving good for?]
Let it be known that
To ask pardon
Is similar to forgiveness in case of [a] repentance
You ask pardon because you know [about] your mistake
Repeating the same mistake means that you know [as if] my Allah [is] far
[Repeating the same mistake means that you do not know that God is in you,
that you are closing the "heart gate"]

...

I am Mevlana
...
How much ever big the mistake of human may be
It is never bigger than the forgiveness of my Allah
As long as [a] human's right does not keep the human [as long as the human does not owe to another human]
[unless a human harms, cheats, breaks the heart of a human, all mistakes may be forgiven by God]
[In the case when a human harms, cheats, breaks the heart of another human, then God forgives the offender only if the victim forgives the offender.]

...
31 March 1972

I am Mevlana
...
Even if you repent one-thousand times
If the one whom you broke the heart does not forgive you
It will not be written as a merit [you won't be excused, your one-thousand repentances would not even make [count as] one merit]
...
22 April 1976

I am Mevlana
...
Let us ask pardon for each event, for each mistake
Let us say, "Creator knows, let the created [one] forgive"
Because our mistake is [committed] toward the created [one], not toward Creator
...
30 May 1980

I am Mevlana
...
Let us say, "You have the greatest of forgiveness my Rabb [God]"
Let us never enter into sulking [let us never sulk]
Let us say to the one who stays sulked [who sulks]
"Are you greater than my Rabb, [my Rabb who is] the Greatest Forgiver?
You say, 'I will never forgive'
You enter a race with my Allah?
The One who forgives your [, and] my many biggest mistakes is my Rabb [God]
The One who likes friendship is my Rabb [God]
On this day, in this night
On each day, in each night
[God] Loves the ones who forgive, [God] brings them higher"
